Imran Ahmed joined the DIL Board of Trustees in September 2001 and is currently serving as the Chairperson. His main responsibility is making policy decisions with the rest of the Board Members. He is also a Member of the DIL Selection Board, which makes the final selection of new employees.
Imran Ahmed got his start in the non profit sector in 1982 at the Pakistan National Council for United World Colleges, Karachi, where he to date serves as a Member & Chairperson of the Selection Committee for the Islamabad Region, selecting Metric/O Level students for scholarships offered by UWC Colleges located in USA, UK, India and Hong Kong, for a two year scholastic program leading to the International Baccalaureate (IB) degree.
Imran Ahmed volunteered his services at the ABSA School for Deaf Children, Karachi, for three years, where he served as a Member of the Executive Committee and Treasurer. He also volunteered as a Trustee for Pakistan Foundation Fighting Blindness (PFFB), Islamabad, where he was directly associated with the Foundation’s Audio World Project, undertaking the responsibility of its feasibility preparation, negotiating funding with donors and setting up & overseeing the Project’s operations.
From 1961 to 1996, Imran Ahmed worked for Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited, a subsidiary of British Tobacco Company Ltd. (UK). In his last appointment as Secretary of the Company, he served as a member of the top management team with primary responsibility to the Board of Directors for managing the Secretarial & Legal affairs of the Company. As secretary he was responsible for developing the first formal corporate policy on Social Responsibility and in organizing its implementation.
After retiring from Pakistan Tobacco Company Ltd., Imran Ahmed has worked as a consultant for The Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP) and the Sungi Development Foundation (SUNGI).
Imran Ahmed was admitted Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (FCIS), U.K. in May 1982.
