DIL operates under the auspices of a US-based Executive Board and a Pakistan-based Board of Trustees. DIL was granted tax-exempt status 501(c)(3) by the IRS in February 2000. All Executive Board members, the Board of Trustees, the CEO and the CFO work on a volunteer basis.
Responsibilities of DIL’s Executive Board include
- Overseeing the development of DIL.
- Conducting fundraising activities.
- Providing administrative and program guidelines.
- Reviewing and approving annual plans and budgets.
- Monitoring the progress of the organization.
- Guiding and overseeing DIL chapter-boards and their fundraising efforts.
- Visiting DIL schools in Pakistan.
Responsibilities of DIL’s Board of Trustees include
- Assist the U.S. Executive Board and Executive Director in decision making on policy matters
- Oversee program and office operations, monitor progress through periodic progress reports
- Approve selection of partner organizations
- Approve selection of schools to be supported and run by DIL
- Evaluate all DIL budgets and MOUs
- Appoint senior staff members
- Approve regulations for DIL operations in Pakistan
DIL was registered in Pakistan under the Societies Registration Act 1860 of the Government of Pakistan in July 2000.
The Orange County Office is responsible for both day-to-day and long-term operations on all matters related to DIL. It keeps an account of all monies collected by DIL, allocates funds for the various projects being run by DIL, and is responsible for auditing and accounting of DIL’s yearly revenues and expenses. It deals with all aspects of work pertaining to grants. Donor organizations and individual donors are also updated on the progress of the projects through this office. The Islamabad Office ensures project quality and accountability, and communicates with all project personnel. Teacher training, monitoring of projects, disbursements of funds to projects, and daily communication with partner NGO's staff are done through this office. This office submits monthly reports including office expenditures, to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Board and Board of Trustees.
