A Memorable Visit
In the spring of 2007, I had the remarkable opportunity to visit a DIL primary school located in a remote village called Mevo Khan Mangrio. When I first arrived, it was difficult to believe that people in such a small and poverty-stricken village could appreciate and encourage literacy. Little did I know that DIL had already spread the light of knowledge to more than 50 students. The school's population has increased and there is demand for additional rooms and a high school.
I was impressed with the advanced curriculum, which also includes English. The quality of teachers, trained by the DIL staff, was astonishing. Most importantly, I was deeply touched by the amount of enthusiasm the students and parents expressed for education. Because of DIL, students have begun to realize their dreams and hopes for the future.
I went to this school not knowing what to expect, but I came back with a lifetime of memories and a profound understanding that Pakistan's success and growth depends on the education of its youth. We must help DIL continue to spread the light of knowledge.
