In 2006, overall teachers’ attendance was 98% and students’ attendance was 91%. Mr. Wahid Bux, the Field Promoter, has helped the teachers with difficulties they were experiencing with the newly acquired teaching methodologies. He also assisted the teachers with new admissions. He found the students to be confident and intelligent. There is great demand for admissions to this school.
All of the teachers are using activity-based teaching methods. Mr. Bux reported that a teacher, Zahooran, uses story-telling methods and picture cards to maintain students’ interest during class. She also explains the concepts of big and small to her young students by showing different sizes of vegetables and stones. In the course of this activity students learned and understood the concept well. The teacher Yasmeen has conducted a science activity to show her students that air has weight, using the help of two inflated balloons tied to each end of a stick. She would burst one balloon with a pin resulting in the stick still being held up from the end it was attached to the full balloon, proving that air has weight. This activity reinforced the understanding of the concept to the students.
Members of the Community-Based Organization (CBO) are taking on responsibilities for the increasing admissions, collecting fees, making arrangements for drinking water and keeping the washroom clean.
