Mission

Developments in Literacy (DIL) educates and empowers underprivileged students, especially girls, by operating student-centered model schools; and provides high-quality professional development to teachers and principals across Pakistan.

Vision

DIL believes that no child in Pakistan, no matter how poor or underprivileged, should be denied access to quality education.  All children should have equal opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute toward the socio-economic betterment of their communities.

What We Do

Quality Education

DIL establishes, adopts and manages primary and secondary schools for underprivileged children in partnership with non-governmental organizations in all four provinces of Pakistan. In addition, DIL directly operates community schools in Punjab and Sindh.

Teacher and Principal Training

DIL is a national resource for teacher training through the DIL Teacher Education Center (DTEC). DIL provides quality teacher training for its teachers and those from other organizations.

Curriculum Development

DIL enhances the standard government curriculum to prepare students for future success. The curriculum being developed is based on best practices used throughout the world and better equips students to succeed in the global marketplace.

Computer Labs

Technology is a powerful enabling tool that can support critical thinking and other developmental skills.  DIL is in the process of implementing a plan to equip its schools with computer labs so each student will have greater access to technology.

Libraries

In many remote villages, extreme poverty means that most children have never owned a storybook.  DIL is working to turn this tide by integrating modern libraries into its schools.

Vocational Training

DIL’s Vocational Training Center (VTEC) offers students and community members the opportunity to learn marketable skills such as computer training, sewing, knitting, embroidery and candle-making.
