DIL Houston Gala Raises over $140,000
With the usual fanfare and pizzazz, DIL Houston held it's 6th annual fundraiser on May 3rd, 2008 at the Westchase Marriott. The evening began with a lively social hour where guests enjoyed delectable appetizers and bid on paintings, artifacts and jewelry pieces in the silent auction.
The program included a dinner during which guests learned about DIL's work in Pakistan and updates on the various school projects. The guests were moved by the 10-Year Anniversary video, which traced DIL’s growth and development during its first ten years.
Among the special guests were renowned author Bapsi Sidhwa, Consul General Aqil Nadeem (Consulate of Pakistan, Houston), Congressman Al Green and Councilman MJ Khan. Congressman Green delivered an inspirational speech, commending DIL for its work in educating children in Pakistan. The program concluded with a live auction followed by a medley of regional dances from around the world, including a Pakistani dance representing the vibrant colors of all four provinces of Pakistan. The DIL Houston Gala raised over $140,000 for DIL’s educational programs in Pakistan.
