DIL News 2009 - Summer

YOUR DIL Continues to Shine

It has been a whirlwind few months of 2009 so far for YOUR DIL (YD). In our continuing pursuit to mobilize a younger generation, we are proud to welcome two new chapters in Austin, TX, and Detroit, MI. Both chapters’ inaugural events were extremely well attended and profitable. These funds will go directly to educate some of Pakistan’s most marginalized children.

Comedian Saad Haroon performed for not one but two YOUR DIL events, putting on a show in New York as well as Washington DC. YD San Francisco (along with the local DIL chapter) just put together the only West Coast Strings concert for their 2009 tour. Their efforts resulted in some of our most ambitious and wide-reaching marketing campaigns yet, including radio, television, and even movie theater advertisements as well as a feature on the extremely popular directory website Yelp.com. The SF chapter also put together a “Rock for Reading” indie concert earlier in the year. Meanwhile, YD LA teamed up with the DIL LA to contribute and pull together a walkathon event after putting on a Hollywood Bollywood dance-off earlier in the year. YD Boston threw its most successful fundraiser since its inception in an Arabian Nights themed event. YD Chicago also held a concert recently and is planning a summer BBQ in August.

In April, the YOUR DIL leadership team from around the country came together in Austin, TX to convene for the Annual YOUR DIL Retreat. Over 40 members from every chapter around the United States came together to discuss strategy and tactical plans for the year. In addition to our current operating chapters, YOUR DIL US continues to provide support to multiple chapters in Canada, the UK, and most recently to YOUR DIL Karachi.

We are now focused on our 2012 strategy—to become a model initiative aimed at promoting awareness and raising funds through innovative event-based fundraisers that seek to eradicate illiteracy among children in Pakistan and to build a socially conscious and responsible young professionals network across the globe.
