DIL News 2009 - Summer

Current Initiatives

In an effort to provide a better classroom environment for its students, DIL is currently constructing six school buildings, three in Islamabad, one in Rawalpindi, one in Orangi and one in Khairpur.

Later this year, DIL will be constructing its seventh Islamabad school in village Choal Patan. In addition, a DIL school will be constructed at Kala Shah Kaku for the children of the Khuda Ki Basti housing scheme.

After a brief but successful introduction of One Laptop per Child’s XO laptops at one of its school in Islamabad in 2008, DIL is initiating a pilot at 3 schools with 100 XO laptops. The pilot is designed to introduce young students to the hardy, child-friendly laptop to facilitate learning, self-expression and exploration. DIL is partnering with Zigron and Children of Tomorrow to successfully implement the program. In the rural and underserved areas of Pakistan, where there are frequent electricity breakdowns, the XO laptops are an excellent alternative to desktops.
