Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco
In September 2007, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco held their annual fundraising galas commemorating DIL’s 10 year anniversary. World renowned Zaki Taji Qawwals helped raise more than $400,000 at events across the country. Each function highlighted DIL’s important milestones in educating children and empowering communities in Pakistan.

New York
DIL's New York Chapter 2007 Annual Benefit, a celebration of DIL's 10-year Anniversary, took place in October at Manhattan’s Pierre Hotel. The honoree for the evening was DIL founder and CEO, Fiza Shah. Close to 25 Fortune 500 companies supported the event. Among the many notable guests was New York Congresswoman Nita Lowey.

Toronto
DIL Toronto's gala, 'Moonlight in Marrakesh,' was held in November at the Palais Royale Ballroom. The event was a major success, raising more than $50,000 (Canadian), and was attended by many dignitaries and prominent members of Toronto's community. DIL Canada's work was appreciated in speeches made by Hon. Mr. John Tory - Leader of the opposition, Dr. Sheila Embleton, Vice President York University, Dr. Hina Chaudhry, Cardiologist & Irving Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University.

Ottawa
DIL Ottawa’s annual gala in September at the St. Elias Banquet Hall raised more than $27,000. The focus of the evening was to showcase Ottawa’s contribution in making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children in DIL Canada schools in Orangi, Karachi. The High Commissioner of Pakistan, who was also the chief guest, praised DIL Ottawa for its dedication and hard work in the spread of literacy amongst the disadvantaged children of Pakistan.
