For 12-year-old Noor Fatima and her family, the August 2022 floods brought much pain and hardship. Their roof collapsed, causing a fire that reduced their home to ashes.

Noor had to move in with relatives who live 3 kilometers away from her local DIL school in Janwri Goth, Sindh.

The new distance to school made it impossible for her and her brother to attend. Falling behind in class was making Noor upset and anxious.

So when her mother let her bike to school, she leaped at the opportunity, something unheard of in their socially conservative community.

“Passersby sometimes glance in bewilderment, but with my brother my side, nobody is objecting. I just want to be at school!”
